Festival of Literary Arts 2017

Plan now for a weekend of fun in Southern Utah in early spring. On Thursday March 2. 2017, our visiting poet Rosemerry Wahtola-Trommer, Colorado's Western Slope's Poet Laureate, will present Metaphors Everywhere in a Z-Arts Lecture at 7 pm at the Canyon Community Center in Springdale. This lecture is free to the public with housing available in Springdale that evening for those wishing to attend the Poetry in the Park (PIP) workshop the next morning Friday, March 3, at Zion Park Lodge. 

The PIP workshop is presented by Utah State Poetry Society in collaboration with Zion Park Historical Association and Zion Canyon Field Institute. Attendees will eceive a free Zion Park pass, guided nature walk plus a daylong poetry workshop on metaphors with our visiting poet. Fee-$50, register now at zionpark.org/class/poetry-in-the-park/ Come and be inspired by the beauty of Zion Park in early spring BEFORE the crowds or shuttles come.             Also this same weekend is the Redrock Creative Writing Seminar on Saturday, March 4, 2017 in nearby St. George,  Rosemerry Wahtola-Trommer will headline this seminar discussing Paradox in Poetry-How a Poem Turns; award-winning mystery novelist Tanya Parker Mills of St. George will present Finding the Poetry in Prose, and Joel Tucker award winning poet will explore Rhythm and Muse at the seminar.  Plan to attend the Social Hall of the St. George Arts Complex from 9am to 1:30 pm for  inspiration, and creative writing. Another SUCCESSFUL fun Poetry in the Park 2016

Thanks to our official photographer Steven Leitch of Salt Lake City, a UTSPS member who attended our SPRING FESTIVAL of LITERARY ARTS which included a Thursday night Mar 3 free Z-Arts lecture with our visiting poet Dr. David J. Rothman who is a talented teacher and poet. He is Director of the Graduate Program in Creative Writing at Western State Colorado University and Poet in Residence for Colorado Public Radio. Our nature walk was so fun as we had an assignment to write a list of words
that shared alliteration to work on later as we enjoyed a beautiful spring day.

Enterprise High School enjoyed the day of learning in nature.

poetess who gave an excellent presentation.

Thanks to the many poets from St. George, UTSPS, Dixie Poets, Redrock Writers as well as Z-Arts, Zion Natural History Association, Zion Field Institute, St. George Arts Commission, Utah Division of Arts and Museums and the National Endowment for the Arts for their funding and support.
